Type 1 Diabetes
Symptoms
Type 1 diabetes is a problem that is
usually found in children and teens. Sometimes adults may
encounter the problem as well, although this is rare. If you
have children, it can be a great idea to familiarize yourself
with the Type 1 diabetes symptoms so that you are able to
recognize them if they happen to occur in your child. These
symptoms usually happen quite fast, so you need to keep your
eyes open. Here is a look at the symptoms that can occur in
those who have Type 1 diabetes.
Quick Weight Loss One of the main Type 1
diabetes symptoms happens to be quick weight loss. This weight
loss occurs without a real reason and usually begins to happen
quite quickly. Often this occurs because you don't have the
sugar supplies that you need so the fat stored and even muscle
tissue can shrink away because the body tries to use it for
energy.
Feeling Hungry All the Time Even though
people with Type 1 diabetes often lose weight quickly, they
often feel hungry all the time. Since they are not getting the
sugar needed in their cells, their muscles and organs are not
getting the energy they need. This makes them feel hungry all
the time. Even after eating they can feel hungry since they are
never getting the sugar needed to the tissues of the body.
Increase in Thirst Increase in thirst is
another of the Type 1 diabetes symptoms. You may notice that
your child begins drinking more than normal and seems to always
be thirsty. When the sugar builds up, fluid is taken from the
other tissues of the body which can make you feel that you are
very thirsty.
Urinating More Often Along with the
increase in thirst, another symptom is urinating more often.
This usually occurs as a result of all the fluid that is being
taken in by the body because of the increase in thirst. The
body may be trying to get rid of the extra sugar in the blood
stream as well, which can cause the frequent urination to
occur.
Blurry Vision Blurry vision can even be a
symptom of Type 1 diabetes. If your child is complaining that
they are having difficulties seeing and that their vision is
blurry, this could be a sign of this disease. When the blood
sugar levels go too high, often the fluid is pulled from the
tissues of the body, which can include the eye lenses. This
makes it hard to focus, causing blurry vision to occur.
Intense Fatigue Those who have Type 1
diabetes often deal with fatigue as well. The cells in the body
are not getting the energy that they need because the sugar
stays in the blood stream and can't be used. This causes all
the fatigue to occur and can even go on to cause irritability
in children too.
These are just a few of the main Type 1 diabetes symptoms. If
you are noticing that your child is showing several of these
symptoms, it may be a good idea to take them to see a doctor to
see if Type 1 diabetes may be their problem.
