First Symptoms of
Diabetes
Diabetes. It's such a common problem
today, and many people are afraid that they'll end up dealing
with this problem. You'll find that millions are already
dealing with diabetes, and since we live in a culture that eats
many of the wrong foods and doesn't focus as much on exercise,
you'll find that people are at a higher risk for diabetes than
every before. There are so many complications that can come
with diabetes as well, and it's definitely a problem that you
want to avoid if you can. There are a variety of things that
you can do to prevent the problem, and prevention is definitely
the best answer. However, there are many people who end up
getting diabetes even though they do work to prevent it. To
avoid further complications, it is always important that
diabetes is diagnosed as early as possible, so this means that
it is important that you are on the lookout for the first
symptoms of diabetes so you can quickly get to a doctor and get
treated if this is your problem.
You'll find that the main symptom of diabetes, whether it is
Type 1 or Type 2, is having blood sugar levels that are
elevated. This happens in those with Type 1 diabetes because
their blood is not producing the insulin that it should to help
regulate the sugar within the blood. However, in those who have
Type 2 diabetes, the body actually develops a resistance to the
insulin, so it cannot even use properly the insulin that is
produced in the body. While high blood sugar is the first
symptom, this is not something that you will probably notice.
So, it is important that you learn about other symptoms that
are more easily recognizable so you can get to a doctor and get
tested if you experience them.
One of the first symptoms of diabetes that people really
begin to notice is extreme thirst. While many people get
thirsty when they are ill, just after exercise, or when it is
very hot outside, this thirst really may seem to have no
explanation at all. The reason that it actually happens is that
the body gets dehydrated and it is trying to compensate and
rehydrate, which makes you thirsty all the time. Many people
also deal with extreme hunger as well. Even though they have
eaten plenty of food, they still end up feeling very
hungry.
Another one of the first signs of diabetes is urinating
frequently. While some people just have to go more than others,
if you constantly wake up to go to the bathroom all night long
or you can even drive 30 minutes in the car without having to
pull over to go to the bathroom, you know that you have a
problem. This happens because the body is trying to find a way
to get rid of all of that glucose in the body and the kidneys
just can't keep up with it. Many times people also end up
having problems with fatigue and tiredness, which often makes
them fall asleep right after they eat, and it is a very common
symptom that many people end up dealing with. Dramatic changes
in weight often occur as well and can be a clue that you are
dealing with diabetes.
Of course some of these symptoms can be related to other
problems as well, if you experience them, you should go to your
doctor so he can test you for diabetes. The tests are usually
quite easy to go through and you'll quickly find out if
diabetes is the problem. If you only have a couple symptoms for
a week or so and then they go away, it may not be a problem.
However, if the symptoms continue for some time, it's time to
see your doctor to find out what is going on. Often early
diagnosis after seeing the first symptoms of diabetes can help
you to prevent some of the more serious problems that can come
with diabetes. Early diagnosis will allow you to start
treatment and get your glucose levels under control, helping
you to prevent some of the problems that are so serious and
even deadly.
