Symptoms of Diabetes -
Warning Signs You Need to Be Aware Of
If you take a close look at diabetes, you'll find that many
of the symptoms of diabetes are the same, whether you are
dealing with Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes. While these
two types of diabetes are different, they can have some of the
same effects upon the body. When you are dealing with this
problem your body definitely will start telling you that there
is a problem, and there are some symptoms that you should watch
out for. So, here is a list of some of the symptoms that you
should watch out for so you can catch a problem with diabetes
early on and get the treatment that you need as soon as
possible.
Extreme Thirst
One of the main symptoms that many people deal with when they
have diabetes is extreme thirst. Sometimes it can feel like you
are drinking water like crazy, but you just can't get enough.
This can definitely be a big sign that you are suffering from
diabetes. You see, since often you end up going to the bathroom
more when you have diabetes, it makes your body get dehydrated,
causing you to have to constantly have to drink more and more
to make sure that you get enough water to replace all the water
that you keep losing in the bathroom.
Visiting the Bathroom Frequently
As we were mentioning, visiting the bathroom frequently goes
right along with that extreme thirst problem. If you are
constantly finding yourself in the bathroom and you feel like
you are always making trips to the bathroom and feeling like
you have to go extremely bad, this can be another symptom to
watch out for. You see, if you have too much glucose in your
blood, you are going to urinate more. The kidneys have a hard
time filtering the glucose back into your blood if you are
dealing with diabetes. So, they decide to start taking extra
water from your blood to try and dilute all the glucose that is
there. This makes your bladder become full frequently and it
will keep you running back and forth to the bathroom as
well.
Fatigue and Weakness
Another of the many symptoms of diabetes is fatigue and
weakness. When you eat glucose, it is supposed to be
transitioned into your body's cells by the insulin, which then
provides you with energy. However, when you don't have the
insulin there that you need, then the glucose will just stay in
the blood and the cells won't get the energy that they need.
Your cells become starved on energy and you begin to feel weak
and fatigued, which can really cause a problem in your
life.
Numbness and Tingling in Extremities
Some people also experience numbness and tingling in their
extremities as well, which is known as neuropathy. Usually this
is a symptom that takes some time to appear, since the high
amounts of glucose in the blood can start to damage the nervous
system in the extremities. Often nerve damage can just creep up
over time, especially in those who have Type 2 diabetes, since
many people go for years without realizing that they have it.
However, often it can improve when the blood glucose is better
controlled.
Other Symptoms You Can Experience
Of course these are not the only symptoms of diabetes that you
can end up dealing with. Some people end up dealing with very
dry and itchy skin, some have blurred vision, and others deal
with bruises and cuts that don't heal. Having frequent
infections can be another sign that there is a problem as well.
If you ever end up dealing with any of these signs, it is
important that you see your doctor as soon as you can. Diabetes
can respond well to early treatment, so recognizing those
symptoms early and getting treatment is very important.
