Hypoglycemia: What to
Eat
Having hypoglycemia and determining what to eat can be a
real challenge. Hypoglycemia is a condition that refers to the
fact that the glucose level in the blood is relatively lower
than what is considered to be the norm for the majority of
people. If you have this condition, it is important to
understand that there are certain foods that you should eat,
and certain foods that you should not eat. Here, I will offer
some standard tips on how you should eat when you have this
condition.
1. When establishing a diet to accompany the issue of the
hypoglycemia, it is important to understand that certain things
should be avoided. These things include that of alcoholic
beverages, sugar, different types of caffeine and even flour.
All of these substances can really raise the blood sugar level
too rapidly. It is important to ensure that you do not indulge
in these items.
2. When deciding what foods to eat, it is important that you
go with approximately six meals a day instead of three. This
does not mean that you have to double the amount that you
consume; it simply means that you space out your proportions a
little better than you normally do.
3. You should try to avoid foods that are processed, but
lean more towards foods that are natural. Certain types of
fruits, an assortment of vegetables, poultry based foods, and
proteins that are considered to be lean make excellent
choices.
4. It is important to keep certain foods on you at all times
that can assist with issues that develop with your glucose
levels. Little sugar cubes, or small snacks make an excellent
choice.
5. Fruit juices are an excellent choice when it comes to
assisting with the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Tropicana Fruit
Punch and similar juices make a good option for people who may
need to moderate their glucose levels and make certain that
they are stabilized appropriately.
6. You should purchase or look up recipes online that
contain small amounts of sugar. It is important to understand
that you will need a small amount of sugar, but it is also
important not to consume too much at a time. If you do, you may
go from hypoglycemia to hyperglycemia. This extreme can really
cause a lot of problems for you.
7. While medications are not really “food” per say, they are
items that are consumed. It is absolutely important to ensure
that you carefully evaluate the ingredients that are contained
in the medications that you consume. You will want to avoid
medications that contain any type of sugar or any type of
caffeine.
8. While fruits and fruit juices are an excellent source of
sugar, it is important to ensure that you avoid indulging in
too much at once. Many make the mistake of choosing to always
drink these types of juices, and to always consume these types
of fruits. The end result is a really, really high blood
glucose level. You should do this in moderation only.
9. You should be certain to select foods that are relatively
rich in carbohydrates. There are many examples of these types
of foods. You have rice, potatoes, and similar substances that
fit into the high carbohydrate level. These foods can be
extremely beneficial when it comes to regulating the normal
amount of glucose in the blood.
10. Last, but not least by any means, it is important to
ensure that you talk over your diet options with a doctor. They
will be able to provide you with a sound diet that can be used
to control the effects of hypoglycemia.
Deciding what to eat with hypoglycemia can be a bit of a
challenge, but if you work closely with your doctor and monitor
the food that you eat, it should be an easy task.
